Clinical usefulness of reflectance confocal microscopy in the management of facial lentigo maligna melanoma.
Facial lentigo maligna melanoma can be a diagnostic challenge in daily clinical practice as it has similar clinical and morphological features to other lesions such as solar lentigines and pigmented actinic keratoses. Confocal microscopy is a noninvasive technique that provides real-time images of the epidermis and superficial dermis with cellular-level resolution. We describe 3 cases of suspec...
متن کاملLentigo maligna and lentigo maligna melanoma.
Lentigo maligna (LM) is a pigmented lesion that occurs on the sun-exposed skin, particularly the head and neck areas, of an older patient. The lesion increases in size and at some point, often many years after its onset, may become lentigo maligna melanoma (LMM). For this reason, most authors consider LM a form of melanoma in situ. Treatment includes surgical or destructive modalities; the pref...

Thirty-eight cases of lentigo maligna and 22 cases of lentigo maligna melanoma, were reviewed in order to compare cure rates of various methods of treatment. Surgical excision resulted in the best cure rate (91%); destructive modalities were less successful (45%). All lesions treated with 5% 5-fluorouracil recurred.
متن کاملDetection of Residual Lentigo Maligna Using the In Vivo Reflectance Confocal Microscopy.
Dear Editor, Lentigo maligna (LM) is a form of melanoma in situ that occurs on sun exposed skin, particularly the head and neck areas, of elderly patients.1 A clinical diagnosis of LM at an early stage is often diffi cult, even for experienced dermatologists as benign lesions such as solar lentigo and seborrheic keratosis may have similar clinical features. Dermoscopy has been shown to be a val...
متن کاملSynchronous conjunctival melanoma and lentigo maligna melanoma*
Lentigo maligna has an extensive and neoplastic character. It typically progresses slowly and may eventually develop into an invasive melanoma, which is called lentigo maligna melanoma. Ocular melanoma is the second most common type of melanoma. The uvea is the most common site of origin of ocular melanomas, while conjunctival melanoma accounts for about 1-5% of cases. In this article, we descr...
